FAQ’s
When should I start grooming my dog?
Grooming is an essential part of the relationship development with your pet, so we recommend brushing from the day your pup walks through your front door. Two weeks after your dog has received their second vaccination, you’ll be able to attend our free ‘Puppy Familiarisation’ package. At 12 weeks – once you’re dog’s been fully vaccinated – begin making visits to us as part of your regular grooming routine.
My dog’s nervous in the company of other dogs?
This is a common problem, but here at Tidy Hounds this is easily managed. If necessary your dog will be the only one in the salon. Even in possible crossover periods we can add additional measures to ensure you dog doesn’t need to have contact with another dog.
How long will my grooming appointment be?
Generally, most dogs take around two hours for the full groom, however, this does depend on the breed of dog and the condition of the coat. We’ll contact you when your dog is ready to be collected.
Can you brush out my dog’s severe matts and tangles?
Naturally, between grooms dogs can develop matts and tangles and most of these can be addressed and de-matted. However, the removal of severe matting can be stressful and painful for dogs, especially if they’re in sensitive areas. In this case, we recommend clipping or cutting out the knots.
How often should I groom my dog?
Regular professional grooming allows your dog’s coat to ventilate, helping it grow healthy and strong whilst also ensuring your dog’s skin can breathe and keeps down the level of grease in their coat. An excess of grease can block pores and cause irritation and other skin conditions. As a guideline, the following is a recommended groom frequency for the most popular breeds we often see at Tidy Hounds
Poodle – 4-6 weeks
Shih Tzu – 6-8 weeks
Bichon Frise – 4-6 weeks
West Highland Terrier – 8-10 weeks
Cocker Spaniel – 8-10 weeks
Yorkshire Terrier – 8-10 weeks
Border Collie – 6-8 weeks
Cockapoo – 6-8 weeks
